Before each wedding, I send a questionnaire to the people marrying. One of the questions is “any particular theme or style?” I nearly didn’t even include this question, because not everyone has a wedding “style” in a traditional sense. But thankfully, people feel compelled to interpret it however they see fit. I’ve had answers from “earthy + agrarian” to “jewel tone rainbow whimsy (like a pretty craft store exploded).”
Kelsie + Colin responded to the question with “family, friends, fun, and love!” It turned out this was absolutely the theme of their wedding.
Everything from the outdoor chapel on a friend’s land, to the flowers grown by their dad, had a personal touch. At their reception children flitted about like joyful dragonflies, music poured out into the summer twilight, and everyone looked genuinely grateful to be there. I left thinking, these two clearly know how to love. Not just each other, but their daughter, their families, and their big beautiful community.
